Helo, I'd like some help on something and I hope this is the right pplace...

So, I've been trying to install a program for a couple of days now and it's been really painful with a lot of errors.

I'm getting this error language on the installation menu and it's starting with this weird language. I asked on Reddit what language it was and they said:

1. Mojibake

2. It's Russian. Older versions of Windows encoded Russian with the Win-1251 codepage. Now it uses codepages 1252-1256, breaking backwards compatibility. To make it comprehensible again, change the parts of the registry that point to the codepages 1252-1256 to all point to 1251, or just replace the codepage files themselves in System32 with 1251's.

Considering the program seems to be related to Russian language, I'd like to know how to perform the steps on the second option (To make it comprehensible again, change the parts of the registry that point to the codepages 1252-1256 to all point to 1251, or just replace the codepage files themselves in System32 with 1251's.), since I'm a huge newbie on that topic. Can somebody help me?? I'd also like to know if there are any risks in following those steps. Thanks and I hope I'm doing everything right

Can you provide a link to the instructions you found as what I see here makes no sense. Maybe in context it would make sense.

All modern versions of Windows encode text as Unicode. Code pages are supported only for backward compatibility. The only versions of Windows released in the last 20 years that used code pages natively were Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME.

These are the codepages mentioned and the languages they support.

1250 Central European
1251 Russian.
1252 Western European (English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, etc.)
1253 Greek
1254 Turkish
1255. Hebrew
1256. Arabic

Changing registry entries as suggested or replacing system files would seem a rather drastic solution with a variety of potential problems. And I doubt it would solve anything.

Maybe if you could tell us about the program, what language it uses, and what errors you were getting we could help with installing it.

Thank you. Here it is where I asked about the language: https://www.reddit.com/r/language/comments/4576yc/what_language_is_this/

The program I'm talking about is a game that seems to be no longer for sale for the PC plataform online as it is from 2004.

I download it and get the folder on picture 1. When I click the Setup file it opens up an installation menu that's purely in the language discussed, as show in picture 2.

I just downloaded another version of the game at this point. The game was probably only in Russian.
