Changing default install location

I tried doing this the other night by following this: Secondary Harddrive question - [Solved] - Storage but it messed a lot of shortcuts etc up. I just want it so when I go to install a new program it will automatically point to my D drive, is doing only that possible? If so, which one do I change? Thanks.

A drive letter (C:, D: etc) is assigned by the OS so when you're installing Win 7 you wont see the drive as a letter but by its name.

This is very IMPORTANT: Disconnect ALL other drives, leaving on only the target disk that you want to have Windows installed.
If you don't do it, you may end with windows installed on one disk and the boot loader on another.

Edit.: As you have edited your original post, what I wrote above doesn't make sense as it's to install Win 7 on the secondary disk.

Not sure if you can do that, you just have to change the letter each time you install a program.

You should not be installing programs on another drive anyway, except maybe your games.
