Have been using Win 7 Ultimate x64 for quite a while but tonight ran into a small problem. I like to keep the titles for links very short and want to rename "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" (I am a registered, paid user) to simply "Malwarebytes". I am listed as an Administrator and I used LockHunter to unlock the file but it still does not allow me to shorten the description. When I shorten the name and hit OK I am told "You'll need to provide administrator permission to rename this file" Since I am the administrator on this machine I do not know what to do. Continuing does nothing. Anyone have any suggestions? /* Philip */
Not sure but I think Malwarebytes is trying to protect itself.
That is one of the first things a virus would try to do is change the name/link and get it out of the infection way.
I can change the name of the desktop Icon to MBAM.

You are absolutely correct. Unchecking the item cited below solved the problem and I was able to rename the icon. Greatly appreciated. Now I can simply recheck the module for whatever reason it was originally checked lol.
Yes. You really do want to re-enable the self-protection module unless you are temporarily re-installing MBAM2 or uninstalling. This is just scratching the surface of how MBAM2 is protected from bad folks.
The reason I deleted my post: I wasn't sure it was the desktop shortcut you wished to edit - however in your case, that post held true.
Just be aware if you ever have to re-install MBAM, maybe update program version, ..., that setting can cause problems.
It's BEST to remember to uncheck it before you make any changes to MBAM.
It's there to prevent malware from changing MBAM settings, but as you can see it protects itself from you too.

Thanks both of you for the valuable assistance which is truly appreciated. While years ago I did a bunch of programming I've gotton a bit rusty in digging around as your help displayed lol. I log on here fairly frequently just to see what's happening and stay up to date. I intend to stick it out with Win7 ultimate until 9 appears and then I might take a look before I build my next machine.
all my best,
bludog I'm very sorry for leaving out the steps in Malwargbytes to allow you to make changes. It was in my thoughts it just didn't come out my fingers to the keyboard.
The good news is it's nice to know Malwarebytes does try to protect itself.
I also like short up things a tad or the Desktop gets very clutter looking.
