Changing font size... not the icon

This was excellent with the RC version of win 7, I mean, it installed it all on its own, it was like it read my mind and knew that I was getting old and I was going to be happy with the font size.

Well, it all changed with the RYN version, I manually had to use the 125% dpi option, which worked well with the icon sizes but not so much with the font size withing the content window.

The size is awesome on this site but not so much on others and/or the software I use... see example.

I have also gone to the "Change Window Colors and Metrics" and sorted some other stuff but, I can't for the life of me, change the "Window Text" inside the "Active Window"... again, see image attached.

My problem is that at my 46 yrs of age, my eyesight is not that bad, hence the problem I am having. I mean, I can see 20/20 for most everything but, fine print within 1 is when all hell breaks loose and my computer is within 1 & 2 so its a toss up

Anyways, what else I can do?

If changing the Display resolution isn't working (Control Panel - Appearance and Personalization - Display - Screen Resolution "Make text and other items larger or smaller") isn't doing it, Windows IE 8 has a tab in the lower right corner to jack up the resolution in the browser. For sites that have small text on parts of them, you can jump the resolution from 125% to 150, or better.

Here's another suggestion from Dwarf, in an earlier thread:

"Try this. Click Tools and Internet Options. On the General tab, under Appearance, click Accessibility. In the Formatting section, click to check (place a tick) the option Ignore font sizes specified on webpages and then click OK twice."

Just to give a little more detail on the first above excellent answer. If you use the customize option, you can increase the font size to your particular needs, rather than the preset 125% 130% and so on.

It isn't clear to me whether the issue is just with webpages or global with text in general. If the former is the case, then the best solution is to use a better browser, like Opera, which has the ability to individually select font size, type and weight of every text displayed by the browser, whether in it's GUI or webpages.

Guys, as stated before, I have already used the 125% DPI option given on the Personalize your Icons and it worked well for the Icons but not so much for the text size.

I use Firefox as well as IE8 and even though they both offer options to increase text size, my main problem is with software like Outlook, etc,... the header font sizes are ok (as showned on my first image post) but the text size inside the Active windows text is very small (also as showned on my image).

This text size is what I am looking to increase and unless I use a lower resolution, I can't seem to fix this.

I already went there but, as stated before in one of my posts, there is no option to increase the size on the "Active Window Text"... and if there is, I have not been able to find it.

See, that's just it. ON my RC Win 7, I had it at 125% dpi and it worked a treat... NOT so much with the RTM version though.

As I explained before, that was the first thing I did, go from Normal (100% dpi) and increase to 125% dpi... anything over this setting and everything gets screwy (mouse won't hit the hyperlink correctly while browsing, etc, etc).

Your not wasting my time though and I appreciate all the help, really I do, its just frustrating and annoying at the same time to think that, One minute, with one Windows 7 (RC) I am as happy as a pig on, erm, well... you know and the next, with another version of Windows 7 (RTM), I'm annoyed and frustrated by the same Windows OS.

To the best of my knowledge, I have no more or no less installed on this RTM version of Windows 7 that I had not installed on my previous RC Win 7 version. As a matter of fact, I could swear and bet good money that I did not even touched or made any changes to the RC version, it suggested it to me and I thought... WOW, this thing is so intuitive is not even funny.

It is because of that suggestion of the RC version that I knew what to do when the RTM version did not suggested or do so. Oh well... I have survived this long with less I guess.

Just wondering if you ever found a solution to this problem - how to increase the size of what is specifically defined as "window text" without changing everything else (e.g., the dpi setting). All I want to do is increase the size of "window text" about 10-20% so it is easier to read. There has to be a registry entry somewhere that allows this to be done.....

...just found a solution...the font of "window text" is controlled by the font of the item "icon" in the desktop advanced appearances dialog box. Changing that font changes the "window text" font, but it also changes all the the text under icons on the desktop, etc. This may mean that the two font specifications cannot be dissociated, unless someone has come up with a registry hack that does that, and specifies the icon font in open windows differently from that of the desktop....
