Changing functions in a Microsoft mouse
Hello,
Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 2000 (Keyboard + Mouse).
The wheel is a bit hard to press. Tilting is softer and easier.
Is it possible to change the tilt function (horizontal scroll) to middle-click?
I'd appreciate your help.
Have you installed your Microsoft mouse/keyboard program?
Have you checked using Windows 7 Updates for updates to the program?
The program should show you what functions your may change to your liking.
I don't believe that you can adjust how hard the wheel is to press.
I haven't used a 2000 M/S mouse in years so I just going by memory.

Hi Layback Bear,
Thanks for replying. I appreciate it.
I've googled "microsoft wireless optical desktop 2000 driver".
In
this page, do you think "IntelliType 8.2 32-bit for Windows 7" is the right driver?
Reading the Readme, I'm not sure.
Regards.
It appears to be the correct one.
Check and see if you have it installed already.
Did you check Windows 7 Updates for a update for your mouse?

Thanks again Layback Bear. I appreciate your kind help.
I've installed the driver; - options are only available for the keyboard.
Can I assume it's impossible to change the mouse functions?
Try this.
Reboot and then go to
Start Orb and type in
mouse and see if a program for you mouse appears in the list.
Then go to Device Manager and look (Mine indicates Logitech because that is the type of mouse I use.)

Nothing.
In the Device Manager under Keyboards Microsoft is in the list, but under Mice just a generic HID compatible.
Thanks.

Allow me to thank you again. Really kind of you.
The Start Orb method I tried earlier.
I've just tried Windows Update. Nothing.
I've also installed the MouseKeyboardCenter app: there's an option to disable horizontal scrolling, but not to assign middle-click to tilting.

Quite late in my place. I'll retire now.

It appears that your mouse doesn't have that option.
I haven't used a mouse that old in a very long time, I can't remember what options came with it.
