Changing mechanism that win 7 uses for picture viewing

If I have a jpg on HDD, and view it with, say irfanview, it is noticeably sharper than the same picture viewed using the Win Fax and Picture viewer.

I first noticed this when I saw that Firefox was not as sharp as the irfanview viewing. I thought it may be the uploading of the shot, or the site's treatment of the shot. But even dragging and dropping a picture straight to firefox causes a loss of sharpness.

When I then saw that Win 7's native viewer also did the same thing, it made me wonder if perhaps FF just uses the same underlying display mechanism/stream that is decided by Win.

So, firstly I guess, would a browser simply use the Windows viewing mechanism/codec?

If so, is it possible to change the way that Windows views pictures, so I can try to get sharper jpg views.

I have asked on the Firefox forums also, about whether I can change the way that FF views images. I have not had an answer yet.

Thanks for any help

Nick

Thanks for the fast reply, mate!

I had done that, but there is no jpeg / jpg option there.Nothing in the "js" at all.
