Changing my account name

Just got a new Windows 7 (home premium) 64 bit desktop.

When I started my setup, the first user account I created I cleverly (I thought) called it
i7
Later on, I realized I probably should have used the same user name as on all my other computers
Michael

So, I went into control panel and then users and changed the name.

BUT, the name of the folder under the USER folder remained "i7" and I've come to discover (via another posting here) that if the USER and PASSWORD were the same on all my machines, sharing would be simpler.....much simpler!

So, the QUESTION: Any way to easily change everything to be MICHAEL instead of USER. When I try to change the folder name, it's locked.

You can change the name of the account as you did, but that folder's name can not be changed. It is necessary for Windows to keep it there as is.

What you can do is rename the account back to the original. Then, create a new account with any new name you'd like.

OK. I'd then want to move everything to the new account. Might that create problems?

You can change the user name of the original account and not worry about the folder name.

It should work as you want - same user name and password as other machine - even though the folder name is different than the "new" account name.

Actually, I had already changed the user name to
MICHAEL
So, the user name and password were the same as all my other machines, but I couldn't access across the network.
If I were to create a new user who is an administrator, move everything from the original user/i7 folder to the new USER/MICHAEL folder, could I then delete the i7 user?
