Changing One Folder Changes All Folders

I still don't get it. Being a long-time XP user, I'm used to customizing individual folders. With Windows 7, changing one folder changes all folders. For example, I have a folder on the Desktop named Games that has shortcuts to various games rather than having a lot of individual shortcuts on the desktop. I have no need for the Navigation Pane in this folder, but if I go to Organize | Layout and un-check Navigation Pane, I lose the navigation pane on all folders including Explorer.

I'm pretty sure there's a way to modify one folder and I'm just not understanding it.

Anyway, thanks for your time, Windows 7 Forums is a great resource!

The navigation pane is part of Explorer's window, not the folder. You are just going have to live with the navigation pane.

Folder options Fault

I am with Tom 7601 - there appears to be no way you can setup the format of a single folder without affecting all other folders.

I have created a desktop folder into which I have placed a number of shortcuts to keep the desktop clean. I used the 'Organize | Layout | Navigation Pane (turn it off so there is only one pane) and that step changes all other folders including Windows Explorer.

So how do we setup one folder with unique properties?

Also how can we turn off the address bar and or the Organize bar in just one folder?
