Changing Tools, Keyboard to 'to virtual machine'

A program that I run in XP Mode has several keyboard shortcuts which don't work in XPM. For instance, 'Alt+Shift+numeric-keypad Delete' invokes the Windows Control dialog (upper LH corner of the program) rather than doing the action it should.

Today I looked at XP mode's Tools, Settings, Keyboard. It says 'Send Windows key combinations such as alt+tab:

- to the virtual machine
- to this computer
- in full screen view only'

It was set on 'to this computer,' which must be the default, because I hadn't changed it after installing XPM.

I've changed it to 'to the virtual machine'. This solves my problem. My program now executes its keyboard shortcuts correctly.

So far, the only potential disadvantage that I can see to this change is that Alt+Tab now only cycles within the VM, rather than shunting me off to the host machine. But I actually prefer this. Also, Ctrl+Alt-Esc now opens XP mode's task manager rather than the host machine's - a definite advantage, as far as I'm concerned. And I haven't lost integration of the clipboard with the Windows 7 machine.

I can't find any online documentation of the 3 Keyboard choices. Is there any disadvantage that I don't know about to changing permanently to 'to the virtual machine'?

Sorry if I've sent this message twice. I thought I'd sent it, but had to reboot right about then, and now I can't find the message on the forum; so I'm reposting.

Thanks

Mary

I can not think of any disadvantage. That's the setting I'm using; when focus is on XP Mode, that's where I want my keyboard commands to go. If I have to work with host, a click outside the XP Mode fixes that.

A good place to start looking for Virtual PC and XP Mode documentation is here: Windows Virtual PC: Documentation and Videos

Kari, thanks. I've posted the info to the user forum for my program (the Nota Bene word processor).
