Solved Check for Updates - Error Code 80072EE2

I apologize if this is the wrong area.

I've been having quite a bit of trouble with this--and even when I had XP. Whenever I try to manually check for updates, it simply doesn't work, and gives me the error code. I've tried numerous things to remedy it, such as going directly from my modem to the PC, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling the ethernet driver.



Any help?

Have you applied any patches to remove the watermark or send feedback options if so I had the same problem and I had to do a system restore to undo the problem.

Actually - I managed to get rid of it, some way or another. Not sure how, but I didn't apply any of those patches or do a system restore. Also, I'm having another small problem not relating to it however; as my taskbar is a really opaque color for some reason, and when ever I attempt customizing it, it goes to the XP-ish screen, rather than the newer one when I first installed it.

That would mean that either you don't have your display drivers installed or you haven't refreshed your W.E.I. score or if that doesn't work you may not have a good enough video card for Areo.

I'm also experiencing Windows Update error code 8007EE2 on Win 7 whenever I try to search for updates. I know that 8007EE2 stands for gateway timeout but I don't understand why I even have this timeout? I mean I have direct connection with no routers etc. I even disabled windows firewall with no luck!!!

Besides WU Internet is working perfectly.

Any help would be extremely appreciated!

i also am having problems with obtaining any sort of update from microsoft, whether it be defender, windows, or downloading the KB from the ms website, all have timeouts.

if you could please post your solution that would be fantastic!

-- on an update, i have just reviewed windows update history, and it shows that it found an update (windows defender definitions) but failed with error code 8024402c

I'm really not sure if this will help, but all I did was update my WEI (Windows Experience Index), which I hadn't done since installing OS, and Windows Update magically started to work.

That's about it. I really didn't do anything else. I hope this helps even a little.

I have WU set to never check for updates and was getting the error. I just kept hitting the Check for updates button until it worked. It only took 3-4 goes.

This looks like a generic error code that may be caused by a number of issues. I too have stopped and restarted services, switched off firewalls and recreated Ethernet ports to no avail.

I use my Windows 7 laptop at work. Company policy currently supports XP only. Windows Update via WSUS is enforced by Group Policy - this results in the "You receive updates: Managed by your system administrator" line on the Windows Update screen. I had been clicking on the main update button and getting the 80072ee2 error. I'm assuming that the admin hasn't set up WSUS to support Windows 7 yet as he doesn't have to!

Clicking on the grey link saying "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update" bypassed WSUS and went to Microsoft's Windows Update servers.

It all seems blinking obvious in hindsight (read the screen....), but I have wasted a few hours down blind alleys.

Note that a) using an "unsupported" system and b) bypassing your company's WSUS patching policy probably won't endear you to your company's admin team, so I'm keeping schtum and simply enjoying life with Windows 7 whilst they toe the line and plod on with XP.

I had the same issue, and this worked. But, it defaults back to "Managed by your System Administrator" and you have to click the link "from Windows Update" each time. How do you change the default from WSUS to WU?

See if this works:

• Download Dial-A-Fix from one of the following mirrors:
  • Primary Mirror
  • Secondary Mirror
• Extract the zip file to your desktop.
• Double click Dial-a-Fix.exe to start the program.
• Press the green double checkmark box (Looks like this:

• UNcheck Empty Temp Folders, as well as Adjust Time/Date in the prep section. The prep section should then look like this:
  
  
  
  
  
• Click on go
• Exit/Close Dial-A-Fix

Next please go to windows update and install all critical updates
Microsoft Windows Update
Reboot, and see if that solves your update issues

Amigo tive o mesmo código de erro e resolvi de forma bem simples. Caso você não tenha calculado o seu indice de experiencia, faça-o, caso ja tenha feito abra a tela de pontuação(windows + pause) e mantenha aberta durante a atualização. Não sei se estou certo, mais percebi que toda vez que abro esta tela ele da uma mensagem "recuperando pontuação". Certo ou não, funciona.

Friend had the same error code and resolved very simply. If you have not calculated the index of your experience, do so if they have already done open the scoring screen (windows + pause) and keep open during the upgrade. Make sure that ActiveX screening/ filtering through your router is switched off (unticked).

This can be checked and changed in your router administration page, then go to Security, and then select the approriate tick/ no tick to switch ActiveX off.

Above is a general solution, which you will need to adapt to suit your specific router.
