It's just too bad that all of these great deals on large monitors are TN based panels with reduced viewing angles and ghosting with fast action video. After you use a non TN panel for awhile, using a TN panel is quite a disappointment.

Thanks for sharing...most people seem to gladly give up quality in exchange for larger screen size...so my concerns won't probably bother too many people.

It wasn't an insult and it's not jealousy...a quick look at my system specs will show that I too have am using a TN flat panel at home. I use a non TN flat panel at work and it's fabulous....but when I use my monitor at home it is disappointing compared to my work monitor.

I posted that comment just as information to other people who are considering the purchase of another monitor. Lots of people don't even realize that there are such variations in monitors.

Yeah I think too big for my desk. I have an 18" Samsung now. For a 2d monitor I think I will spring for the Hanns-G 21.5" HH221H (I think that's the number) from the egg. I keep waiting for it to get further reduced in price but it hasn't been--I think it is selling too well.

Both monitors have their advantages/disadvantages, though with a lot of the latest TN panels you can only really tell the difference at 28"s.

I don't know what you mean about the ghosting. Non-TN panels have generally higher response times than decent TN panels, which is why TN panels are favoured more by gamers to reduce ghosting more. I've watched The Matrix on a non-TN panel, and it was ghosting quite noticably. Non-TN panels also do have a considerable higher price tag, such as the Dell Ultra Sharp 24" is £300+ more than my Dell 24", so for the average PC user, a TN panel is better suited.

Everlong...you are completely right...I totally goofed on the ghosting statement. My bad. To clarify what I meant...there does seem to be some varying degrees of ghosting on some of these TN panels. Most expect no ghosting because of lower response rates...but it's not always uniform across the color band. There are very nice IPS displays, such as the Dell UltraSharp U2410...which is a 24" Display, at 1920x1200, 6ms access time. Of course, it also comes at nearly $600.... So, while they look fantastic...not all of us can justify that amount of money...but at the time some of us invest in things like SSD drives and the like for performance....while we often skimp on things like the monitor which we do have to look at every second we use the computer.

So, I still stand by my statement...it's just too bad all these great deals are on TN panels. I'd love to see that first steal on an IPS panel with specs like that Dell and I would jump on it in a heartbeat.

Back in 2003, I bought a Dell ultrasharp 18" flat-panel and I think that sucker was about $700 at the time. But I still have it and it's a fantastic display...but when I replaced it...I went with a 23" and it ended up being a TN (it's an Acer that I got for about $160 in July of 2009...so I was willing to accept the loss of performance for a superlow price). It looks ok...but compared to my Dell...it stinks. But then, tons of people on NewEgg rated it as absolutely excellent...so I think we all have different standards we evaluate against.

Again, I was not intending to be insulting in my post....but rather informative.
