After owning a new Dell 8300 with Windows 7, today I got a black screen reading: Checking file system on C: The type of file system is NTFS. Volume label is OS. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue. " it gives me the option to cancel the disk check by pressing any key, but it won't cancel even though I am pressing keys. I must hold down start button to shut off computer. Then on start up, same message appears. Rapid depressing of keys sometime opens desktop. I can then use computer. It shuts off normally, but on start up, black screen and message reappears.

I notice this is not a new problem and there seem to be many suggestions. What is the correct solution to this problem?? I did not receive a Windows 7 DVD with the new purchase from Dell.

I found I was able to prepare a System Repair Disc of my OEM supplied operating system.

After turning off the pc for the night, today I have booted system up twice without experiencing the black screen and message. I did not used the Repair Disc.

Now I think I will wait and see if black screen and message returns before using Repair Disc. Have no idea why it is working ok again. Any ideas?
