I have been manually updating Windows since XP days
My last Win-7 WU was 5 months ago. (The Win-10 "push" has put me off trusting updates)
Today I decided to at least look at the list of patches available for Win7 Home Premium 32 bit, and attempt a very cautious update.
Forty minutes later Windows was still checking for updates (in May last it was <20 minutes).
- today when I pulled the LAN cable windows continued to "check for updates" for 11 minutes (no WiFi either)
- the only way to abandon checking for updates was a system shutdown.
I notice in this sub-forum a few threads with Windows Updates check incomplete, but no resolutions.
Are their any problems with MS or am I being too impatient ?
Hi,
Waiting 5 months to check for updates is pretty wild
What have you really been waiting for win-10 is an Optional update/ Recommended for some but as long as your settings are correct what is the harm really ?
You waiting 5 months is more of a risk than only focusing on Important updates and letting windows check on it's own on startup :/
Unless you're on a metered connection or some thing like that ?

Hi,
Anything is possible but waiting 5 months to do so I would wait for the checking to complete
You can also do other things as windows checks for updates.
The windows update system is probably updating it's self
See the Note part at the very bottom of the Change update settings window.

Updates in some cases are taking hours. 7 hours for a forum member I assisted. With you not updating for months it will probably that a long time.
Set computer to sleep never.
Start windows update.
Be patient, it will complete Patience is a virtue!
