Checking if my license key is being used.

Sigh,
Took down an older machine I no longer used. I had upgraded it to win7 using an upgrade version. Since decommissioning the machine I sold the upgrade on eBay, complete with discs and original packaging, activation key. Buyer buys it, I ship, two weeks later he wants to return it.

I know I shouldn't have sold on eBay so that's my fault, yes. I am assuming I will lose the eBay case, be out the software and the money, everything. My question is "is there a way to see if someone has activated the key I sold?"

Sorry to bother you guys, just need some guidance. I feel like an idiot.
