A couple years ago I had a PC custom built for me and have had intermittent problems - crashes - every few months (separated by months with no problems). I was recently told I should see if my chipset drivers are up to date. I have no idea how to do this. This refers to the motherboard chips? My PC has a GIGABYTE X58A-UD3R. (I know there are at least 2 revisions but I don't know which I have.) A utility I run (HWiNFO32) says I have the "Intel X58 (Tylersburg 36S) + ICH10R" chipset. How do I tell if I've got the latest drivers? Does the Window Update utility have access to these drivers and check for updates or is this something I'm supposed to do?
If you've had crashes it's possible you have minidump files, if you have those we can look at a complete dated list of your current drivers and point out any that may be old/bad.
The files would be found in c:\windows\minidump
If you zip them into a folder you should be able to upload/attach it here using the paperclip icon in the edit window.

These "crashes" are actually power off/power on/reboot events - no dumps. And it looks like I've had no dumps for any reason since the last time I cleaned them out (several months ago). The jcgriff2 BSOD routine didn't find any as near as I can tell. It did find all my drivers, though. If someone could tell me how to identify the chipset drivers I should be able to take it from there.
Actually, I don't insist on anything about this problem. I asked for suggestions on the forum run by the place that built my PC and they suggested looking at the drivers since I don't have much to go on.
I've also asked a couple times on this forum's "Crashes and Debugging" section. I got good suggestions, but nothing uncovered the problem.
