CHKDSK /r /f marked my whole HD as bad sector?

Hi there,

Strange issue. I ran chkdsk /r /f at login, and suddenly went from having 500GB+ free to having 30GB free. Upon looking at the log, I discovered that chkdsk had marked a massive number of bad sectors, I believe incorrectly. Is that possible? The laptop has not be dropped or moved, so I'm almost positive there aren't any HW issues with the drive), the computer is super lightly used and <1 year old.

I've attached the logs from the run where it happened, and then a subsequent run where I was hoping the issue would fix itself, but instead even more sectors were marked bad.

Is there any way to repair this, short of reformatting the drive? Or any utilities that might be worth a shot? Thanks for the help!!

Hello chris997, welcome to the Forum.
From what I have seen for similar issues, best thing is to back up and save any data that you can at this time .
It was apparent that you had a reason for performing the check disk programs.
You can perform a Hard Drive diagnostic by using Seatools. It is a free way of confirming the hard drive as being bad .

Yeah I'll get on the back-up, that's good advice. Google drive to the rescue!

I'll get that utility and give it a shot. Thank you!
