Win 7 keeps showing my internal data drive as being bad and ready to fail, I did a scan disk or chkdsk and it comes up clean every time. i have several usb drives connected but only this one hitachi 1T comes up bad eveytime i reboot. Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.

What exactly in Windows is showing your HDD as bad?
Have you done a full scan or chkdsk /r (very slow for 1TB)
Run the manufacturer's diagnostics without any externals attached.

Not sure on this, but I think ChkDsk only knows what the controller tells it. That is, it doesn't really check the platter for errors, just file structure.

Try HDTune to scan your drive for bad sectors.

chkdsk /r (or it's equivalent from within windows properties>tools) checks for bad sectors and recovers readable info. It does scan the platters on a sector by sector basis which is why it takes so long (? 2 hours for a 1TB drive)

I stand corrected.

I was basing this presumption on the old ScanDsk standards.

I recommend a chkdsk /r

/r includes the functionality of /f in addition to attempting a recovery of information from bade disk sectors, if any exist.
