Choppy video in new Win 7 64bit build

I recently upgraded my inlaws pc to win 7 64 bit it has 2G of RAM everything is running smoothly except
streaming video is choppy. I have tried:

installing the latest video drivers
checked I have the latest flash player and divx
installed a codec pack for win 7
turned off the AVG firewall
run ccleaner
I tried yelling at it


I can confirm that a bad internet connection is not to blame.

any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi,
Which codec pack did you install and from where ?
Some will do more harm than good,
If I needed a codec for which ever reason I would just use a player that came with it,
Like vlc media player which I haven't found a file it can not play,

More details about your environment would help.

What is your machine, including motherboard, CPU and graphics card? You say you have 2GB of memory, which really isn't much for a Win7 setup. Yes, it will work, but 4GB is honestly a recommended minimum in my opinion. But that's just my opinion.

Also, what is your Internet service and provider? Specifically rated download speed?

Also, what is the "source" of "streaming video" that you're trying to play? YouTube? Netflix? Something else?

Also, what "player" program are you trying to use? Have you tried alternatives, which depending on the actual source may require one or another player program or perhaps allow alternative choices to be used?

While I have a number of different media/audio/video player programs installed on my own systems, my "player of choice" for video is PotPlayer (which can also play streaming video). In my opinion it's even more capable than the much-touted VLC, and has a great deal of customizability in both its GUI appearance as well as its functionality. And it supports pretty much any video format there is.
