I use Media Centre Studio to insert a shortcut for Chrome into Media Centre the problem is that when i click on it the programme opens fine but the window says untitled and the address bar says about.blank and i cannot access the internet unless i already have a separate chrome window already running in which case another one opens fine , any suggestions?

No sanbox argument

I had the same problem. Chrome won't allow 3rd party software to access the net. If you run chrome in no sanbox mode, it works.

However!! Google strongly recommends against this... but if you feel you have no choice, here is how you do it:

type:
--no-sandbox
into the arguments field.

What is sandboxing in Google chrome?

Sandboxing is a special feature in Google chrome, to prevent malware from installing itself onto computer/PC.It also prevents what happens in one tab from affecting the other tabs i.e each tab runs as a seperate process and for each of these processes, all the rights have been stripped.

Hence, each of these processes are isolated and the websites/web applications you run via these processes can compute but they cannot write files to your hard drive or read files from sensitive areas like your documents or desktop.

From the above, it is clear that sandboxing has lots of goodness and one would not like to loose this feature of google chrome. However note that sandboxing is only an additional security feature in google.

"that out loud, in one breath." :sarc:

(but let's leave Jesus out of this as some may take offense)

The OP has not replied, should we assume adding the URL to the shorcut worked? Anyone use Chrome, BTW? :D

in my case, adding the URL to the shortcut did not work

I had the same exact problem: running chrome from media center opened an untitled, blank, restricted window.

I used Media Center Studio to create a shortcut for chrome that opens chrome in my Google Calendar. In other words, my shortcut had a URL added to it.

So in my case, adding the URL to the shortcut did not work. On the other hand, adding --no-sandbox to the shortcut works for me.
