Internet Explorer 9 cannot get here soon enough, as Microsoft certainly needs a breath of fresh air in the browser race. The Redmond company has seen its share of the browser market drop constantly from month to month over the past years, and with the new open source browser from Google making headway competition, Internet Explorer’s dominance continues to be eroded. There’s no telling what impact IE9 will have exactly on IE’s overall share of the browser market, especially after IE8 failed to stop users converting to rival browsers.

But then again, IE9 will be a new Internet Explorer altogether, a sort of IE on steroids, with a new JavaScript engine, modern web standards support, and hardware-acceleration capabilities. It’s safe to say, after the advent of the Platform Preview release, that the fully fledged Internet Explorer release has excellent chances to win back the hearts and minds of users and developers.

I'll still be far more interested in taking a close look at the IE 9 beta once available! Presently Chrome is simply the "new kid on the block" so to speak while the things I'm waiting to see are what improvements will have been made in the version of IE as any of the new features.

Being the newly introduced browser however many are leaping at it presently for a cnange from the other alternates besides IE alone explaining the large drop percentage wise being seen. Yet the report goes on to show that the last three versions of IE 6, 7, 8 continue to see the largest use overall.

I'm using SRWare Iron 5 alpha, a chrome clone. Only thing holding me back is I want to sync passwords and bookmarks with my own ftp server like SyncPlaces allows. I don't want to put stuff in a google account online.

Right now I'm running with 3 extensions as opposed to 15+ I was using in Firefox. If you like fast you can't go back. The thing just jumps off the HD when you click the icon!!

That may be true. When first looked over here it seemed to be nothing more then one half of what a browser should or does look like. The comparison was made up against the three leading options of IE, FireFox, and Opera the favored alternate from IE here.

With the intro of Andriod on portable phones and later this fall a new Windows phone you can see where more people would be looking at the new browser along with netbook users.

Personally I think this obsession for other browsers is what you might call the "boys toys" syndrome, the feeling that they must have something to play with, a browser is merely a link to the Internet, it does not have to stand on its head and whistle "Dixie"

Try starting a video mux. Then launch Firefox. Then wait for a minute to see the window come up. I was running Firefox portable in a Ramdisk just to get around this laggard loading.

SRWare Iron I just click the icon and don't worry about it. It comes up in a second or 2 even if the HD is busy. I got rid of FF portable, Ramdisk, all the other BS. It just performs better by using multiple processes. Also I don't have notifications some AddOn got updated every time I go to surf, taking me to their site to tell me how great the new version of the AddOn is so that I forget where I wanted to surf to in the first place.

This is no distraction just get up and go. If that's a toy it's the one I'm using!

I just can't do Chrome since I can't trust it. It's fast, i'll give it that. But it doesn't do anything out of the ordinary.
These days though, with the exception of IE, FF blows speed-wise, and I could see why a lot of people would switch from one of them to go to Chrome.

I have been playin with Iron, not bad, but it's hard to get used to.
I'll stick with Opera. IT does what I need, it is quick, and that's all I can ask for.

I use Opera here on occasion for the alternate to IE 8. That's a clean basic browser without all the thrills added on and serves the purpose well enough. The "eye candy" part is good for bird food as far as I'm concerned as long as the selected browser does what it's supposed to.
