Ok I have a OEM Asus CM6870, (Dont know what I was thinkng LOL) I would like to do a clean reinstall of 7 home premium. I have a four disc image, and I think there may be a hidden repair image on the hard drive. If I have to end up with all the extras that came pre-installed fine but is there a way to do a clean install into UEFI....
I can do this with Windows 8.1 Pro, install as UEFI from a retail disc. but I would also like to keep a disc with my licsence of 7 home premium. I have a product key.

Yea But Fry,s wont give it to me, Asus tells me to go to Fry's, and Microsoft... Well you see. Is there a way? I have seen places that it is possible but could not get clear instruction.. I chould try uninstall everything, and do a refresh, make another image. But can I switch to UEFI without a fresh start????

If it's the Win 7 install disc, the tutorial explains where to get the ISO and how to create install media.

Fry's wants me to bring it in and let them do the repair. Something about a special chip on the board. It is a way striped down version of the non oem board. Anyways I can pay for it and wait. I kanda wanted to do it right now. Are the digital river ISO's legtit. Kind of skeptical. Will microsoft let me download OS. I do have the license.

Yes, the Digital River files are legit. You pay nothing.

Do you have a 25 character product key on a sticker on that machine somewhere?

I think Fry's just wants to get into your wallet.

Not sure what you refer to.

Guessing you mean the letters at the end of some versions of Windows.

N is a European version; you don't want that.

Don't know about U.

RTM means released to manufacturing.

You need to download the right file from Digital River.

What version of Windows is named on the sticker on your PC??

Your specs say Windows Home Premium 64 bit.

That is 58997.iso. Same as I use.

Does your sticker say Windows Home Premium?

If you only plan to keep 4gb RAM then I'd use 32 bit from here:
Win7 Home Premium x86 SP1 English Official ISO download
But if you plan to upgrade from 4gb RAM you'd need 64 bit to address all of the RAM (your hardware uses about .5 gb):
Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 English Official ISO download

Your model has 32 and 64 bit Win7 drivers posted here: Desktops - CM6870 - ASUS

Put the network driver in your backup so if it isn't provided during install you can install it to get online, enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3), Check for Updates, install all Important and Optional Windows Updates, with reboots, until there are no more offered when you go back to Check for Updates.

Everything else in the tutorial will assure you get and keep a perfect install as long as you stick with the tools and methods given.

Thankyou Gregrocker. I have 16gb ram... I have the network driver that I need. And I want to do a totaly clean install so do I really need to copy my user folder??? Also in the tutorial it says to copy the boot folder up one level. Is it really copy, or is it move????? do I leave the original intact? or do I cut and paist????

You'll need to back up your files before a Clean Install. Copying your User folders is easiest if you use them. If not I'd sort my files into them to get organized best.

Other things needing backup are covered in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 along with everything that works best to get and keep a perfect install

The boot file edit is only needed for UEFI Flash stick install. UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows

Yes I want to install as UEFI. I am all done, my question is when when the tutorial says to copy the boot floder up one leval do I copy and leave the original and the have the boot folder in both folders, or do I move it up one leval? The instructions say copy ?????

A) On the USB flash drive, "copy" the efi\microsoft\boot folder up one level into the efi folder as efi\boot. (see screenshot below)
