Clean install, but cannot get past accept license terms page...

I just bought an SSD to soup up my Dell Precision M4400 laptop. The laptop came with W7x64pro, so it should work, but I have the strangest problem I've ever encountered, and I've searched high and low but cannot find anything about this particular install problem. Basically, I cannot click to accept the license terms and so I cannot get past that page.

I can get it to boot from the W7x64pro install DVD. Using the mouse I can setup language prefs, and I can click "Install now". So steps 1-4 here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html?filter[2]=General Tips are no problem. I get stuck in step 5.

The problem comes on the license term page, where I can move the mouse around, but it won't take any clicks. I cannot scroll the license terms, and I cannot click to check the "I accept the license terms" check-box. The first time I click the check-box, its focus goes way, but that is all that happens. I also cannot do Alt-a to accept the license terms. I'm totally stuck here!

I have tried several times with different language settings, including the default English (US), but to no avail. I get stuck on the license term.

I have installed W7x64pro from this DVD on another computer with no problem. I also have the same problem on the laptop when trying to install W7x86pro from another DVD, so the DVD is not the problem.

I also tried different mice, but with the same result. So the mouse is not the problem.

Any ideas anyone?

It almost has to be the installer. Download the latest from the link in this tutorial and burn to DVD using the tool given, then follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals. Use the touchpad, then try a wired mouse - PS2 if port is available.

If that fails, reset your BIOS to defaults. Set SATA controller to AHCI.

If that fails, try writing the latest ISO to flash stick using Download tool given.

I'll try the ISO from the link, but... could the installer be broken on both my W7-DVDs (x64 and x86 resp)? Doubtful, but I'll try...
SATA control is set to AHCI, but I also tried ATA, no difference. BIOS recognizes the SSD. No other HDs or peripherals are present (laptop). Wired USB-mouse already tried (PS2 port not available).

As a last resort you could try saving a (stripped-down if necessary) Win7 or Macrium backup image of your HD install to external, then booting into DVD Repair console or Macrium CD to reimage to SSD.

You could even then run the Win7 installer from within Win7 to overwrite C with a new install.

But I understand why you would want to try troubleshooting it first as it can identify other problems.

I decided to give it one more try before I went and created a new install DVD. This time I just hit Enter on the license term page without moving the mouse or anything. Lo-and-behold! It worked. So I managed to install. But there definitely is something fishy with the generic mouse driver. It locked about in the same way on the Personalize page, but only temporarily.

Installing again, and having the same problem.

So I returned the SSD and got a new one. Now I tried installing again, and apparently not learning from previous experience, I moved the pointer using the touch pad to click the accept check box and again I'm stuck.

I'm really just ranting, but still... This is rather a stupid thing not to work correctly out-of-the box.

It's a strange anomaly. Beginning to suspect your keypad, but then you tried a wired mouse - correct?

If you can tab and use Enter then it really points to the hardware or driver.

Are there any performance issues within Win7? Check the logs and System Resources in Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Maybe there's a fault in your RAM. Test it from steps above.

Yes, things are very strange... I managed to get past the license agreement page but Alt+A to agree, and enter to go next, but now I am stuck in exactly the same way on the "Where do you want to install windows" page. I have a PCI-express card inserted that I forgot all about, that's why I get the question. Will remove it and re-try. Third try today...

EDIT: Finally managed to get W7x64 installed, using only keyboard shortcuts. Now it seems to work ok.

EDIT: No, it did not work ok, there were all kinds of strange things. But Win Update DL'ed 133 updates, and NOW it seems ok

Hi everyone!
I had the same problem. I tried 3 different types of OS: Win7HE x64, Win7Nx64, Win7U.
The same situation: Cannot accept the licence terms (I can move mouse but I cannot click anything)
I read here to use shortcuts and it worked. So I found out that it may be something wrong with my wireless mouse. I disconnected it and everything is GOOD. With all OSs.

If someone will have this problem try it.

A wireless mouse might not have the software loaded at that point to make it work.

One can usually tab to the desired button and then press enter
