In the clean install instructions, it says to use Shift + F10 to enter Command Prompt when using DVD for clean install. However, this command does not work for a USB.
What command should I use to bring up command prompt so I can run diskpart?

HP notebook running Win 7 SP1 64.

Many thanks.

Hi,

SHIFT+F10 definately works when installing from a USB - it works using any bootable media. At what stage are you pressing SHIFT+F10? Where did you download the Windows 7 ISO from?

Regards,
Golden

Hi gregrocker and thank you for responding.

Too late for the recovery partition. I deleted it when I went ahead with the install.

Does using the advanced options in which I deleted all data on the hard drive have the same effect as running diskpart on the hard drive?

Did you click the link? Those options are for repairing or reimaging Win7 and include the Command Line, not Factory Recovery.

Yes, clicked the link and the two options were OEM Recovery Partition and Windows Installation disk. Since I am using a USB, I bailed out.

IOW, this is an alternative approach is to access the Command Prompt? Can I still go back to the recovery options after running Diskpart?

Instead, can I run Diskpart, reboot into the USB drive and then install Windows?

Thanks.

You should be able to use OPTION TWO: Using a Windows 7 Installation or System Repair Disc booting from USB or DVD.
