Clean Install vs. Booting from DVD

So my harddrive crashed on Thursday unfortunately right after I downloaded the student upgrade (Premium). Luckily, I did burn all 3 of the downloaded files to a data dvd disc (I didn't know how to make an .iso at the time), so I have not lost them.

My question is, when I reinstall Vista on my new harddrive and then move the 3 windows 7 files to my desktop, will doing a clean install from inside windows be as efficient as if I made an .iso into a DVD and then booted from that DVD after restarting?

I know in the past when I have restarted the computer and booted from a DVD that it has given me the option to format the drive etc, but will doing a clean install from inside Windows erase just as much old vista junk?

thanks.

No, I doubt that your upgrade would end up as efficient (or as error free) as a clean install from the DVD. There's already a tutorial on how to convert those files to a DVD. Reinstall Vista, then use that tutorial and burn a DVD - then do a clean install!

Ok thanks, I assume by burn a DVD and do a clean install you mean:

1. Reinstall vista
2. Package the three windows 7 files into a .iso
3. Burn that iso file to a dvd
4. Put dvd in the drive and restart
5. Follow directions from there

Just want to make sure I do it correctly.

Thanks again.

Yep, that's about it. Or, you could just borrow a friend's computer to make your DVD.
