Clean Install: Which Hard Drive do I choose?

I'm doing a clean install on my computer, and it's going alright until it asks me to choose which hard drive I want to install Windows 7 on.
Apparently I have 2: a C drive and a D(Recovery) drive.

What should I do in this situation? Should I just install on the C drive, or should I do what it says here:

and delete the partitions and create a new one.

Is the recovery D: drive from a factory install computer ?

If you want a ture clean install, I would delete the partitions and create new ones.

Note: Make sure you have all the data you need OFF the drive before you delete the partitions. -WS

EDIT:: And by data what do you mean? I have all the files (word documents, pictures, music) that I want to keep and put it on an external hard drive. Is there other stuff I need too?

If you want to ever get back to a factory first install then keep the D; recovery.

How are you doing the new install? By DVD ?

I believe so, it's an upgrade disk from HP.

I want to do a clean install so I don't have all the bloatware from HP. My computer is cluttered as it is, so it would be good for a fresh start.

Yep, copy or move, documents, pictures, music, videos, software (??), favorites, (outlook, email, contacts, etc {if you use it}) to an external drive. -WS
