easy to do. from within vista delete the backup partition (make sure you have everything you need off of it). then when you install win 7 pick the vista partiton. the installer will ask you how big you want to make the partition. choose all

Let us know if you need help with this

You can delete and resize your partitions from within Vista. Go to Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management.

Hi, I am trying to shrink my Toshiba Recovery HD Partition but i cant. The recovery takes up 10gb but the hard drive is 30gb. I would like to shrink it so that i am able to add it to my Seven partition when it arrives.

I tried to install 7 but when i restart the computer from the disk - i am only given the option to delete the partition and am not able to join the free hd space to the vista partition.

Do i need to delete the vista partition before i am able to join the free space with the vista partition. I also have the Upgrade edition, will deleting the vista partition make me unable to install 7?

Let's make this easy:

Back up all of your files onto an external drive, stick or disk

Boot from the Windows 7 installer, choose Custom install, Advanced tools.

Highlight each partition shown and Delete.

When all partitions are deleted and showing as "Unallocated space", select Create and make one big partition

Format that partition and install.

The installer should see your Vista when it boots up and allow you to give your key and activate.

Later, if you want to make a data partition, use Disk Management to shrink the one big partition, Create what you want, then format it and install data.

When I had my Toshiba in for repairs, they got it running again but when they put the files, which they had put on an external hard drive, back on they made the operating system partition half the size it was. I don't want to go back to them again as I don't know what they will do this time. I have copied all files on the private partition to an external hard drive of my own leaving an empty partition. I want to give some of that partition back to the os partition. How do I do this without me screwing up too?

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized full Disk mgmt drive map with listings, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu. Then we can advise you correctly.

Tell us what is on each partition and which you want to add to the OS partition.

Found my own answer in a freeware program from MiniTools. Their Partition Wizard Home Ed. 6.0 is a great freeware utility which enabled to resize my partitions. It walked me thru the required procedures. While I didn't need to - I had downloaded quite a bit of the info on both partitiona to an external hard drive for safety sake.

Thanks for offering help, maybe next time I'll need your kind offer.
