I inherited my fathers computer which is running Windows 7 and the hard drive is an absolute mess of nested folders, files and general garbage. I want to do a clean reinstall but when I go to the Microsoft site and enter the product key I get this response:
Unsupported Product
The product key you entered appears to be for software that was pre-installed on a device. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options.
Is there some way to download the .iso so I can wipe the drive and reinstall 7?

Does it have a recovery partition? If so you could restore to factory state using the recovery partition. Should be a link off the Start menu somewhere or a Fn key you can press at boot time.
This would wipe the drive and put it back to it's factory new state. Not as good as a Clean Install but at least all your father's stuff would be gone.

Yep it might help if you post a screen shot of your disk management see if there's a 15gb recovery partition in front of C drive as Ztrucker has pointed out might exist
