Clear notification area icons?

Under control panel>all control panel items>notification area icons, how do I clear old items that are no longer installed? I have icons in that list from software I no longer have installed and I'd like to get them off this list.

By the way - that link worked perfectly for me. Thank you. CCleaner has this option but it doesn't do anything for me.
