Clear Page File

About a month ago, I was having very slow shutdowns (for quite awhile). Tried several things I found on the web, but nothing worked... until I discovered the tip about editing the registry to change the setting clearpagefile to 0 (false). Presto, shuts down within seconds.
However, windows seems to want to change the settings back to the default which is 1 (true).
Any tip on how to prevent this behavior would be greatly appreciated.

ClearPagefile is by default off not on. Something else is changing it.

Not from what I read

It's been awhile so my memory is fuzzy, but the general discussion was that people were a little upset that it was turned on by default. I know I didn't turn it on, but it was on. I'll check a few things and post back.

A lot of tweaking tools and even some security programs allow you to turn it on if you want to. Back in my "tweak it 'til it hurts" days I would often enable something for testing purposes and then forget to turn it off. Could it have been something like that?

That's what I was checking

I checked group policy editor, x-setup pro, and winbubbles. All have that setting disabled. Nothing else I run at startup would change this setting back. And, if memory serves, this was a major complaint in the discussion I read.

No idea what "discussion" you were reading, but this never has been set to "ON" by default. I've installed Windows countless times and the pagefile was never deleted on shutdown unless I it set to do so.

Is it getting set to 1 on reboot? If so, download/run Process Monitor from sysinternals, click options and enable a boot log, and then reboot. Once the machine has rebooted, open process monitor again and save the log file as a .pml file when prompted. That file can then be zipped up and uploaded for analysis.
