Clear up my understanding of SLP/SLIC / Windows 7 Loaders etc,

I was inspired after seeing torchwood's response to the below thread to look into what an SLIC Table is, having never heard the term.

After looking into it for some time, it became necessary for me to make a document to try make sense / organise the information available online.

I have attached this document in the hopes you all can review it and correct me where I am wrong. A lot of the information contained is taken/parsed from various posts on other forums, various blogpost websites, etc. etc.

Please note that while Windows 7 Loaders are mentioned in the document, I only mention them because they seem relevant / important to mention/discuss. I have always known they were illegal to use but only now do I believe I understand why.

Nothing wrong with that nice little synopsis

I've been reviewing Mgadiag reports for a long time.
Both types of loaders leave behind tell-tale traces of thier modification
Easiest to spot included
BIOS date preceeding W7 release date
OEM product code on Retail motherboard -- the reason you created this thread
SLIC table in the wrong place
which if MS updated their validation server checks could easily spotted them --
as it was they didn't and W7 became the most counterfieted product ever

Note
any system that included a modification and was upgraded to W10, became TOTALLY genuine because of MS transferring the licence rights to the device

It's funny how the world has changed. Now we have a SLIC, Windows OSs and Apps with boat loads of telemetry and you name it, yet some 23 years ago this was BIG, big league stuff. I remember it very fondly indeed. And those that I knew in the computer world were all up in arms about it.

SLIC – System License Internal Code
For Windows 7, the 25 digit product key was printed on a CoA but it is typically not used during Windows 7 Installation.

Instead Windows 7 is activated from Factory using OEM System Locked Preinstallation.

For Windows 7 OEM SLP three things are required:
1. The System has a SLIC Version of 2.1
2. The Installation Media Inputs:
A xrm-ms File.
A Generic OEM SLP Key (Generic for the OEM e.g. Dell and the Edition of Windows 7 e.g. Professional).

If all three requirements are satisfied OEM SLP is applied. Although most people shouldn't need to, one can check if they have a SLIC by installing RWEverything.

Wondering if it would; A. be possible, B. make sense to and C. be legal to burn a ton of DVDs with Windows 7 Media which will activate using SLP for every OEM using the guide under "Applying Windows 7 OEM SLP All OEMs Using Dell Media" at Windows 7 OEM System Locked Preinstallation Activation - Windows 11 Installation Guides
