Click 'Next' after partitioning or Format also?

Just a quick and slightly random question for you guys.

When you're in Windows 7 setup, after you've partitioned your drive, do you just click 'Next' and away you go, or does anyone actually perform a format there and then?

Normally I just create my partition and then hit 'Next', without any user input re. formatting.

It always comes out fine at the other end with the NTFS filesystem.

I think that's kind of clear.

If you do the format, it is called a clean install (the best). If you do not the system will get rid of the old OS and install the new, called a custom install. In answer your question if you want to format, it is done at that point. But be sure to back up.

As Richard says, if you want to format you need to do it then. If you don't format 7 will place the files on the partition in 'Windows.old'. This is assuming you are installing on a partition that contains an OS.

I knew I wasn't being very clear...

I was talking about a clean install, what I meant was this:

During a clean install, at the screen where you select/create/delete your partition, for example, once you guys create or select your new partition, do you then specifically click the format option or do you just click next, and there by allow Windows to do it for you.

I've always just hit next and had Windows apply the default NTFS file system.

I just wondered what the 'common' method was.

If you want to format you do it prior to hitting next. If you do not want to format just hit next.

If you delete the partition and then choose to install on the unallocated space, it will be formated before install. In this case I believe 7 will also create about a 100 MB System partition to hold boot and memtest.exe.
