Clicklock unexpectedly turned on

I seem to be dynamically turning on the Clicklock function. It happens often (multiple times a day) when I'm using Sibelius music notation software. It may have happened once in my email client (Thunderbird) but in no other circumstances. I think that rules out the mouse hardware. And I'm almost certain it happened with a different mouse, a different PC, and different operating system (WinXP PS3), but I can't confirm that.

Is there a way an application like Sibelius can programmaticallly turn on Clicklock? (The Sibelius support folks don't think it's their problem.)

I think you missed my question. I know how to turn it on and off as part of mouse options (and I want it off). I'm asking if there is some way for a program to override the set option, or if there is temporary "accessibility" that I might accidentally be invoking that is turning it on.

Ah, sorry, I did miss that.

If you can change it then it's quite likely that it can be tweaked via a program, but I don't know this for sure. Hopefully one of the other folks here can help.

Either the program is temporarily turning it on, I'm doing something to temporarily turn it on, or my left mouse button it sticking only when I'm in this application. (And I find that last possibility awfully unlikely.)

Since I can never invoke this when I'm trying to debug it - when I'm being deliberate - I assume involves something I do in a hurry - something like accidentally multiple clicking, or clicking while moving the mouse. I do know that the keyboard is not involved.

Had a similar problem with a Logitech mouse driver. Switched to "clicklock" when I touched the X2 button. ( The "second" right mouse button on a five button mouse), have had no problems since installing a Microsoft mouse and the "Intellipoint" software.

No idea whether that helps you.

Too much and not enough. Unfortunately there is a Sibelius info mentioning turning off Clicklock. It's been copied, quoted, etc. all over the place. Using other terms instead of Clicklock results in even more bogus hits. I've found nothing related to this problem other than my asking about it on various forums.

I've got a Logitech mouse, USB, 2 buttons plus scroll wheel that acts as a 3rd button. I did not install the Logitech driver. I just used whatever came with Win7 that supported the mouse. Today I downloaded the latest Logitech Setpoint driver for Win7 x64 but don't feel comfortable installing it unless someone suggests I do it.

Well, I would normally certainly suggest you do it, it is invariably better to use the correct drivers for specific hardware.

As you only have a three button mouse I don't see how you could be pressing the "wrong" buttons, or anything like that, and a hardware problem with the mouse would not cause behaviour like that.

Do you have another mouse to try? I would try that first and see if it makes any difference.

If it does then it is almost certainly a driver problem specific to the mouse you are now using. Installing the correct driver should solve it.

If it doesn't then it is still a driver problem, possibly a faulty generic driver, and installing the driver again should fix it.

One other thing I would check is that "Program Specific Settings" is unchecked in your mouse control panel settings. This can cause odd behaviour with some software;

The mouse control panel interfaces vary somewhat, depending on the mouse and the drivers used, but all are similar.

( unfortunately the User Interface on this machine is still partly in German, but I have marked the checkbox with a red outline );

Good idea. I'll switch mice for a while and see if that changes anything.

Not similar enough, I guess. Mine doesn't have that option. Perhaps another reason for me to install the Logitech driver.

After determining I've got at least 2 other mice I can use (including a Microsoft mouse) if things go bad I've downloaded and installed the Logitech Setpoint 6.20 driver. However, Windows says I'm using the Logitech 5.20 driver. I'll see if that changes with a reboot.

I also downloaded and installed the Microsoft Intellipoint driver. The "Program Specific Settings" option seems to be part of Intellipoint support. If it's significant, it's odd that the Logitech driver and the Windows generic USB mouse driver don't mention it.

In any case, I'll see if the new driver fixes things. sometimes I'd go days without running into the problem so I won't know right away if I've fixed anything.
