Clock reverting to 2009

Hi,

This is my first post. Needs drove me to it.

I have been using W7 on my Fitjisu lap top for over a year and had no problems, unlike vista.

But within the past few weeks, every time I start the laptop, the clock reverts back to 2009 for some reason. The laptop starts funny as well wanting me to press F1 to get started.

Does anyone know what is wrong, and how to fix this.

This is a classic example of the motherboard battery either having failed or in the process of failing. These batteries are usually a lithium coin-cell type CR2032, although this may vary. Consult your manual for details on how to replace it.

What you're describing is usually attributed to a dead or dying motherboard battery (also known as a CMOS battery, and used to keep the bios date and time), and is usually a very cheap (a couple of dollars for a new battery) and easy fix. Now with a laptop it can be a bit different as not all of them use the same type of battery as found on a desktop motherboard; normally a CR2032 watch battery. Some have been know to use something like this,



Best would be to check the manual for your laptop and see if it shows how to change it and what type it takes. If it isn't in the user manual you may have to see if Fujitsu has a service manual for it to see how it is done. failing that or if you are uncomfortable doing it yourself then you will have to take it in to get it changed.

Thanks for the advice. It makes sense. The main laptop battery is fine, so the motherboard battery must be getting low as it has been happening more reqularly. I will start searching the manuals. Thanks for the welcome this looks a good site.

This is what the battery will look like and they can be a bit of an effort to get to depending on the location and design of the laptop. CR2032 with Connector 3 Volt 220 mAh LITHIUM - COMP-32-T20 CMOS CR2032 CMOS

If you provide the exact model number of the lappy we could help further.
In many this requires the screen and keyboard removal and would be best left to the pros.

My Gateway's cmos battery was under it's keyboard and if another member here hadn't found detailed instructions for my exact lappy I would have not had the clarity to undertake this. With those instructions and my own stubborn motivation I was so glad I did this. It was a lot of work but also gave me a chance to clean it within an inch of it's life at the same time. Not for the faint at heart.......for sure !

Thanks for the responce. It is definately the battery.

My laptop is described on the back as a Fujitsu amilo notebook Pi 3660 Model/reg EF9A

I would not call it a notebook.

Take a look at this, it might help. The video shows a Fujitsu laptop/notebook, although I'm not sure of the exact model used.

Four little words, "no user serviceable parts". They would rather you brought/sent it into them to be fixed, that or sell you a new laptop for a $2.00 part.
