Clogged pipe when Windows 7 using Windows Update

Hi,

We have a 3 Mbps Internet connection at work. Most of the computers here have Windows XP, and about 5 computers have Windows 7 Pro. If any of the Windows 7 laptops are doing updates via Windows Update it clogs the 3 Mbps pipe so that web pages load so slow for everyone else in the company. It just takes one Windows 7 laptop doing updates to cause it.

Before I found it to be a Windows 7 update issue I had called our ISP to see if there was a problem on their end. They said no. I knew that a Windows 7 laptop was doing updates but I did not know that was the issue. About 30 mins later the NET was fast again. The next day I setup a new laptop that had Windows 7 Pro and I performed a manual update and people came into my office and said the Internet was slow again. I stopped the update on the Win 7 laptop and the Internet connectivity was fast again. Again, it only takes one Windows 7 computer doing updates to cause the clogging of the 3 Mbps pipe. Anyone know why?
On Friday we are switching to a 5Mbps pipe and then in a few months we will go to 10 Mbps.

Thanks!
Andrew

Just seems as though the updates are taking priority over everything else, there's no way around it but to either not download the updates during work hours, in which case you'd install them outside of working hours (eg: Weekend, evenings) or to get a faster Internet connection which is going to be the case soon enough.
