CM 200mm Fans

I just received a fan that I ordered (RA-LUS-07AB-GP), and was surprised that the mounting holes didn't match those on the side panel of my HAF922. I've messed with a lot of fans and never found any that were incompatible in this fashion before. I'm going to have to exchange it, but have no idea of for what?

Odd as reviews on that fan list the HAF922 that they were used with. Can you simply drill four new holes in the relative same area?

I could, but I won't. I started to email the vendor about this, but their website is down for maintenance. If this fan is the right one, it must require some kind of adapter plate between the panel and fan. If that is the case, the adapter should have been included, but it is not listed as an accessory on the packaging, and I have not found mention of it elsewhere.

Seems like they have sent the wrong fan, you will have to contact the supplier to straighten it out.

Arrg!! I was wrong, it will fit, if you find the right combination of holes. You have to keep spinning it around and around until they match up. Now I hope that I have some black fan screws to replace the silver ones that were included.

If not get some emery paper and rough up the heads a bit, install them and then get an artists paint brush and some black paint, one dab on each should be enough.

I was reading your post and after having just installed 2 200mm fans myself on my haf x box, I'm thinking it has to fit. There are only a few companies that even make a 200mm fan, plus cooler master box and cooler master fan. One thing I would recommend is to mount 2 120mm fans in place of the 200mm if you find you need the extra cooling capacity. The 2 120's will produce a lot more cfm.

I guess that I wasted the money buying this fan, because the temps run ~5 degrees hotter with it installed and running, than when it is not installed. I assume that is because that it is creating a barrier to airflow, rather than disrupting the airflow pattern. The only other place that I can install it is on the bottom, but since the case sits very close to it's stand, I doubt that it would be able to suck much air that way. I'm probably just going to leave it out, but wanted to see if anyone had a suggestion to make it work properly?

I'm still waiting for it to arrive. According to tracking, it is supposed to arrive on 12-2.

EDIT: The fan is an addition, not a replacement. However, it is the fan offered by the case manufacturer for use on the side panel, on their pre-designed mounting site. I think that I read somewhere on the forum, that someone mounted their fan outside of the case and got better performance, but I'm not interested in that idea.

lol. is that what your airflow looks like?

I mean like, take a stock photo, then draw fan position and whether they are intake or exhaust, though.

This photo is probably as good as any I could find. Just imagine all of the hard and optical drive slots filled. All of the PCI/PCIe slots filled and a large HS/Fan atop the CPU, and then imagine the resultant airflow.

Horizontally, with the fan on the front blowing backwards.

Sorry for my childish air flow graph, lol. It sounds like the 200mm front mounted fan spinning at 700 rpm is overwhelmed with the hard drives and can't push enough air into the case. I read it can be swapped with a 120 or 140 mm fan. This is where I would start.
