Although not common, has anyone ever had MBR issues when the CMOS battery needed replacing. Still trying to figure out what could cause the issues with the MBR.

When a CMOS battery needs replacing it's like an old man with Alzheimers. It can go really crazy!

So take out the old battery and make sure that all power to the PC is removed. On a laptop, remove the main battery. Remove the old cmos battery and leave the system with NO Battery for about 30 minutes.
Then put in the new cmos battery and go through the BIOS setup, date & time, boot disk, etc.


Hopefully, that will take care of your problems.

Hello mate

Thanks for the reply. Well I removed the old CMOS Battery and drained any power. Fitted a new battery and reset the CMOS to defaults. I then completely wiped my SSD to reinstall Win 7. Then over the last week have been installing software and devices. BUT, it would appear that the problems I had were actually because of a recent Microsoft Update (which I have now blocked)

For anyone interested, this explains the issue, unfortunately I only found this solution after me reinstall, but hopefully it might help someone else

Manually install security only updates. MS releases SP2 for Windows 7
