Got a nice new Laptop (Dell Core i7 Latitude with lots of RAM).

Running 7 Pro x64 and everything installed fine EXCEPT for the WiFi card, which is an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 that fails with the dreaded Code 52 - Cannot Verify the digital signature.

Followed all the usual steps (deleted it as well as the drivers check box in device manager), then rebooted and it failed to find a driver on reboot when it did the usual hardware install thing. OK. So go into device manager again and update driver. Got the latest drivers from the Dell web site. Resulted in a Code 52.

Did same again, but this time got the latest driver install from the Intel web site and it is a couple of point versions more recent than the Dell one. Resulted in a Code 52.

Yes, I did check the WiFi switch position (I don't think that would have stopped the driver from going in) and it is on.

I contacted Dell support and after three hours of ding what I did, they just suggest a reinstall of Windows and gave up.

No other devices failed to install, Everything is there and working except the WiFi. I did wonder if the card is faulty, but how to tell?

What to do next?

UPDATE:

Well now... Backup finished <phew> always good to have a fresh one!

Booting after the changes (I put together this simple bat file):

bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit.exe -set testsigning no
pause

and the machine came back up but no joy.

So I went in an rebooted with F8.

There is a nice option on the boot menu now to disable driver signing. Awesome!!!!

Selected it and the driver installation process failed as before, but carried on to completion. Interesting to get the failure message as well as the thing just carrying on...

Long story short and the device appeared and is now operational. I am using that otherwise unavailable WiFi connection to type this reply, instead of using my old PC.

WOOHOO...

Now to see how it goes with the options reset back to how they were before... Does the device still load and work, is what I mean, which logically now that the driver is installed, it should, but logic and device drivers?

The signing check should only occur when the actual installation is happening. It's a safety feature, now that it's on there turning signing back on shouldn't retroactively affect it.

Thanks for the update about the bootmenu too.

If you could go back to your first post and mark the thread solved that would be great as well.

Not quite fixed. It (the WLAN card) only works while I am booted with device driver signing disabled.

I have even plugged a USB WiFi dongle/thing in and it also only works when driver signing is disabled.

I may well need to reinstall after all.

The issue before I do that, is how to debug this?
