I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

i also get Code 8024200D

I'm sure if i uploaded the correct CheckSUR, but it was the only one that showed up when i searched for it.

Ok so try this first:
Fix the problem with Microsoft Windows Update that is not working

if that fails then try this:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=231149

If all else fails then you would have to run and sfc scan, then start uninstalling all installed updates.

tried both those, tried to run the update again, still failed. installation was not successful. all 4 important updates failed. (not just SP1)

Ok the update that is causing the issues is KB2572076

Download the file here: Download: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Create a directory at C:\Windows\CheckSur\packages
Copy the downloaded msu files there
Re-run System Update Readiness Tool

Then,
Open up a command prompt as admin and run: "net stop wuauserv"
Then navigated to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and deleted the contents of the download folder as well as "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\DataStore.edb"
(note, this erases your update history)

Then open up a command prompt as admin and run: "net start wuauserv"

Reboot
Re-run windows update.

well i'm running the update now, and it's taking longer than usual. i don't know if that's a good thing, a bad thing, or normal for the update history i deleted.

i'll report back when it's finished! HOPEFULLY with good news!

well i've got great news, and i've got not so great news.

great news is that the service pack installed!
the not so great news is that 2 of the other updates failed.

so i'm 2-2. i just ran the update after installing the service pack and it says it has 14 important updates. so i'm going to see what ones fail and what ones succeed, and i'll report back with what fails.

thank you SO MUCH for helping me. i legitimately thought i would never figure out how to combat it, and you did it in an hour!

For the two that didn't install, what updates were they? Also try restarting your computer a few times before trying to install those two updates as sometimes files may be in use by other programs or the OS.

Where there any error codes for the 2 updates that did not install?

13 of the updates installed.

the only one that failed was:

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2579686)

which was one of the original 4 that wouldn't install.
