Hi all,
As the title says, under the Windows Explorer of my Windows 7 64-bit Lenovo Thinkpad T61 notebook, ONLY FOR SOME FOLDERS, NOT ALL, the top bar with the column names does not appear; hence I can't sort the files of that folder according to one criterion. Of course, I always check that I'm under "details" folder view.
This is only the case of some folders, including personal folders. I attached a picture of how it looks like at

http://www.show-room.org/pics/windows_7_column_titles_bug.jpg .

As you can see, I'm indeed under "details" view. I use the german version of Windows, so don't wonder what it all means.

This is annoying as it prevents quick sorting of files by a column.

How can I get the column titles for the affected folders back?

I've googled the web, asked at experts-exchange.com, to no avail. I hope that maybe someone at this forum can help me out.

Best regards,
Steve

Hi Steve
Could it be that you are in List view. If so column headers are not available. Switch to "Details" view and I think all will be revealed ;)

P.S. Welcome to the Forum

mitchell65, thanks for your reply, but look again at the screenshot I posted. You can see by the file type and file size columns that I'm indeed under details view.
I really checked and eliminated this as a possible reason, as it is so obvious.

But feel free to give it another shot ;).

dear mitchell,
no, look again at my screenshot, I'm indeed already under details view, as you can see from the file type and size columns that appear.
I really checked this as a possible reason it is so obvious.

this seems like a quite good reference.
I tried OPTION 2, like the OP, of the solutions in Folder View Settings - Reset All to Default , however, it did not bring the column headers back.

Has anyone else an idea what might be wrong?

And why hasn't Micro$oft released a patch yet? We can't be the only ones for whom this happens.

If you select Details view then go into your menu bar and choose View -> Choose Details .... are any of the various various items in that list checked?

Also is this system wide or ony on certain folders?

Yup, I have the exact same experience, and it varies from folder to folder. It also keeps you from adjusting the column width easily or reordering the columns without jumping through a bunch of hoops. UNBELIEVABLY annoying, and I have googled it alot over the last four weeks. I've even tried customizing the folders, but that has no impact.

i can't believe that Microsoft, one of the wealthiest companies in the world, leaves its customers alone in the rain with this bug unresolved.
Isn't there a way to contact customer support? Or do they charge you something for contacting them? They MUST have a solution, it's not possible otherwise.
