Hi,

I am trying to use a program, which requires an available COM port, and I have two 3.0 USB ports.

From what I remember, I can use the USB's as COM ports in the program.

Is this correct? Because I cannot see any COM ports available in that program.

I may be wrong here, but don't you have to use an adapter to turn a USB port into a COM port?

Hmm... I don't want to buy cables.

Is it possible to make a virtual COM port and link it to your hardware USB port?

I remember on my old laptop, I could choose to assign a USB port as COM1, COM2, etc.

By adapter it usually is meant a dongle or a cable which adapts a port to a different type port, usually no way to get around that part of connecting.
