Why must combofix be renamed before downloading?
renamed to what?

To answer OP question, malware is blocking some programs by name. So random name is not blocked.
However, additional to the reasons for combofix being dangerous on its own, it was noticed infected couple days ago with Sality and pulled down from their main page (I do not know if it is back up). If you download it from somewhere else you risk getting another infection too.

As gied mentioned, ComboFix was out of commission for a couple of days, but now it is back up. Also, as he/she mentioned, you need to be careful where you download the program from, since there are unauthorized links out there. We do use the right ones.

If sometime you need help with removing malware, feel free to post your concerns here, in the System Security forum.
