owning a TV/movie company seems like it would be a conflict of interests for a cable provider and/or internet isp. They are supposed to play movies and TV shows from every other company, but they would have no incentive to give fair play/time to other studios.

Any of you folks pay that much?

My last cable bill in 2000 was $13.

That used to be my average cable bill, (Phone, Internet, Cable) after 6 years now the promotional rates have ended.

My last bill was $195.00, I will be dumping Comcast soon, the process of getting years of accounts switched to a different email account has been fun.

I gave up on my local cable company, not because of price but because of quality. Went to satellite in 2000. I'm with Dish right now and am paying $30 and he next bill will be $35 but there is no inflation.

I would look into that. I believe there's a federal law stating landlords must allow you to install access to competition or provide a means to do so or some such. I'm working off old memory but it may be worth looking into. The law was passed around 1995 or so. It was specifically aimed at apartment owners that restricted antenna use but included satellite, cable and local broadcasts.

The rule applies to townhomes and manufactured homes, as well as to single family homes.

Since we don't have balconies or patios I'm guessing that would be their argument, I'll check into this further though.

The rule allows local governments, community associations and landlords to enforce restrictions that do not impair the installation, maintenance or use of the types of antennas described above, as well as restrictions needed for safety or historic preservation. Under some circumstances where a central or common antenna is available, a community association or landlord may restrict the installation of individual antennas. The rule does not apply to common areas that are owned by a landlord, a community association, or jointly by condominium or cooperative owners where the antenna user does not have an exclusive use area. Such common areas may include the roof or exterior wall of a multiple dwelling unit. Therefore, restrictions on antennas installed in or on such common areas are enforceable.

mine is about $280
between the 3 tv's, Internet, 2 line Phone, and home security, geeez
It also used to be (without the phone and home security $99 a month and that was in 2010

Well, I was close on the year and it looks like the law was amended several times. I (somewhat) remember because I was living in an apartment at the time the law was being discussed. Originally, all we had were shared OTA antennas on the roof. Reception was lousy because we were in a valley. The apartment complex went through and installed free cable to every flat free of charge. The only channels I didn't get were the xxx premium. I guess it was bribery since every apartment had a patio or balcony.

Yeah, that does sound like bribery, giving everyone free cable. I live in a subsidized building, that would be a nice perk, our rent is 30% of whatever our income is.

My cable bill is getting close to what I pay in rent though.

Yeah, that was the "good ole days". My ground floor apartment was about 50' from the pool. We had a work-out gym full of equipment, sauna, hot tub and showers. But there were only 3 washers and 3 dryers per building. I usually went to laundry place up the road. That was back when I worked out every other day and ran 5 miles a day. That seems so long ago now.
