command prompt dosn't work

I was getting the same error: "'sfc' is not recognized as an internal or external, operable program or batch file." when I tried to run sfc in a Run as Administrator cmd prompt.
Got it working by typing "sfc.exe /scannow" instead of "sfc /scannow".
Not sure why my system needs the extension, maybe because I disabled the built-in search??
I have Windows 7 Pro(64)

I disabled the built-in Windows Search (or whatever it's called "Find"?) feature to save on resources.

You can fix this quite easily. Bring up the System Properties by right-clicking on Computer and then clicking Advanced system settings. Click on the Advanced tab (if not already pre-selected) and then click on Environment Variables... Under the section headed System variables, scroll down to the line which has the variable name PATHEXT, highlight it by clicking on it and then click Edit... Enter the following into the variable value box:

.com;.exe;.bat;.cmd;.vbs;.vbe;.js;.jse;.wsf;.wsh;.msc or, alternatively, just add ;.exe to the end of what is already there.

Finally, click OK 3 times to close the dialogue boxes.

Don't know. But very strange!! This setting doesn't change all of a sudden.

When was it last working as expected? Probably you don't know as you don't perform a lot in "command prompt"
