I was looking at Comodo's Internet Security and was surprised to find out that it is free. It is the Antivirus, Firewall, and Wi-Fi security. Does it all really work? Has anyone out there used this?

Yep...using CIS on one of my Laptops and it runs quite well. Have also just used the firewall (without AV) on another Laptop as well. I found the Firewall to be "in your face" meaning that it requires input from you. I like this feature as it warns you when a program is trying to access the internet.

Windows 7 already comes with a firewall. You can get very reliable (and proven) Microsoft Security Essentials for free as well.

Wi-Fi security? No such thing unless you are using WPA or WPA2.

Didn't you just re-install Kaspersky after having MSE and possibly something else?

If you decide to install the Comodo product, be sure to have a good backup as I have seen too many situations where people have problems removing it.

I don't really recommend Comodo anti-virus products as they score low on reviews such as av-comparitives. However, as a firewall, Comodo is the best free version I've found. I used to love Zone Alarm, but ever since Vista hit the streets Zone Alarm seemed to drop the ball in terms of compatibility.

My current setup: MSE & Comodo w/ Malwarebytes & SuperAntiSpyware in reserve.

A good anti virus program isn't too hard to come by, there's MSE, Avast, G-DATA, Kapersky, ESET and a bunch of others with similar detection ratings and reviews. This is why I won't touch the anti-virus side of Comodo.

I have a few systems and love to test software. I have 3 Laptops (2-Win7 & 1-WinXP) and 3 PC's (1-Win7 and 2-WinXP). On the WinXP Laptop I'm running CIS (AV and Firewall). On one of the Win7 Laptops I'm running Avast Free and on the other (my main Lappy) I'm running paid NOD32. For my Win7 PC (my main rig) and one of the WinXP PC's I'm running paid NOD3. For the other WinXP PC I'm running Avast free. I also have SUPERAntispyware and MalwareBytes installed as "on demand" scanners.

MSE doesn't cause issues on Windows 7. Not that I consider it a suite although technically MSE is anti-virus + anti-spyware and then you have the standard Windows firewall that works perfectly.

Jon, I completely agree with you on both counts. MSE will not cause problems because it is an MS program designed for Vista and Win 7. Because of this, we on the BSOD team frequently recommend that a poster uninstall tier current antivirus - especially a suite - and install MSE, a least while troubleshooting. And MSE is not a suite.

I will add that Avast anti-virus works fine in Windows, too. In fact some people are running Avast and MSE simultaneously without problems.

hi !

i normally use only a2, which was released in a new version recently.
i have tested different (new) settings for the "File guard", and also runnning a2 & Avast, a2 & MSE, and also all 3 together.
i did it because i wanted to see if i noticed any difference in performance like fx. a slow computer or other problems,
but i have NOT noticed any.

btw, Avast 5 was designed to be able to run together with MSE.

That is a tough one to remove! It's like the registry has been hooked ... gah
I don't care for it all and totally agree with Corrine!

MSE doesn't cause issues on Windows 7. Not that I consider it a suite although technically MSE is anti-virus + anti-spyware and then you have the standard Windows firewall that works perfectly.

I've found recently that MSE tends to use more resources than other anti-virus programs. This could be because it also looks out for "malware/spyware" but I doubt it. For example, I had Avast Free edition set to Advanced scanning settings and it was only using 5K resources whereas MSE set to normal was using 40K.

In regards to the standard Windows Firewall. I don't trust it because it doesn't ask you for every single action. I want my firewall to ask me what to do every single time it sees a new action. In other words, when a new program is installed, Comodo will ask me whether to let that program send and/or receive information. Not only do I want that level of specificity with the programs themselves, but I also want to be able to block or allow specific ports, ips, protocols and more being used by specific programs. Without that level of specificity, a firewall just isn't doing its job.
