Comp1 sees multiple SSDs on pci-exp card; Comp2 sees only 1

Hi

W7 Computer #1 has a pci-exp card:

Its an ASUS TUF x299 Mark 1, which has two NVMe slots on the board. I have added the above card, and now have 5 NVMe SSDs; W7 sees all three SSDs in the card.

W7 Computer #2 has the same pci-exp card. This MB is an ASUS P9x79le, that has no NVMe slots. I have added the above card here as well, and when I do, only one SSD shows up in W7, even tho there are 3 in the card.

Any ideas why this would be?

Have you checked the BIOS configuration on the P9X79-LE? The ASUS Hyper M.2 card is a PCIe 3.0 card. the P9X79-LE has three "PCIe 3.0" ready slots, but they must be enabled in BIOS for any of them to work with GEN 3 cards.

If that does not solve the issue, then see if there is a more update BIOS available.

Hey - that's a good idea, thanks.

In my BIOS, I have a header called System Agent Config. In there, are the three PCIe slots, and there is no enable/disable. There is only link speed, with three options: Gen 1-3. It is currently set to Gen3. Which, after some research, seems to be the fastest speed/most throughout. So it seems to not be an 'enabled' thing; after all, I don't think even one would show up if the slot was disabled.

Any other ideas?

Sorry, that was my own jingo, not the manufacturers. If you found the System Agent Config, then that is the right place, and Gen3 is the setting you need.

Maybe it is time to check the BIOS version and date. Use msinfo to obtain your BIOS version /date, and post the result here. Or visit the motherboard's website for an updated BIOS.

Not exactly recent.

I can search for an update, but if the slots are already Gen 3, what might an update do for me?

The manufacturers only claim P9X79 LE is "ready" to support the PCIe 3 standard. They recommend to get the latest BIOS version for optimal support of PCIe 3. Probably means that PCIe is relatively untested on that board, with a promise to provide firmware updates later.

Gotcha.

The ASUS site, for that board has the latest BIOS vers as 07/28/2014 - released just 14 days after what I have. Don't think that's going to help me.

I assume that there would not be a newer vers to be found elsewhere?
