Solved Compatibility Privilege Level setting will not take

Hello I hope I chose the right sub for this question.

I have been running Visual Studio as an administrator for quite a long time. The first time I launched it as an administrator, Windows remembered the setting and it's been that way ever since, which was actually a nice feature up until all my admin privs were revoked. Now I cannot launch VS at all without admin privs.

Our Windows Administrator came over and tried checking and unchecking the "Run this program as an administrator" option, from the Compatibility tab for devenv.exe. He did this several times, plugging in his admin privs over and over again, but the setting never took. It still launches as Administrator every time and I can't use it.

Anyone else seen this behavior? I've been googling around for half an hour and no solution yet.

Check in the shortcut tab too, button Advanced, there's a Run as administrator option there as well.

We actually considered that, which is why we focused on the actual executable, figuring if it wouldn't launch from there, it wouldn't launch from anywhere.

The bizarre thing is the "Run program as Administrator" box was actually not checked initially. He said when he solved the problem for someone else, that he had to check it, verify that it took, then uncheck it and verify again.

Now every time we uncheck it, click apply, click OK, then go back in to see if it took...it's checked again.

How odd. You might check to see if you may be able to use OPTION THREE below to remove it using the registry.

We actually uninstalled and re-installed the software, which worked at first but reverted back the next day.

I solved it from the registry as suggested. This site provided the clue https://www.corelan.be/index.php/20...s-administrator-on-vista-windows-2008-server/

The setting was in my specific user though, not HKEY_CURRENT_USER as the article suggests. A registry search for RUNASADMIN should fix it.
