Yeah.. I see my scanner listed, but it won't work in Win7 64 bit. I get the dredded error when I launch VueScan:

I've even tried the XP driver just to see what happens. The scanner's program manager is running, but cannot detect the scanner.

Thanks Adrian!
How fast is the HP? Does it take a while to warm up? I hated having to wait a full 60 seconds using that old Visioneer. :)

Rep given Zahl. I'm happy to say thanks to seeing this post my Umax 3400 is working under 7.
You saved me at least 90 dollars as I was about to buy an all in one photosmart 4780.

I bet the manufacturers are quite teed off about this program. haha.

I had to close the program manager as you call it. Unplug the usb cable on my scanner, plug it back in. The driver from the vuescan installation loaded as UMAX 3400 and when I opened the program everything was good to go.

Thanks, I'm glad it helped you out and that you like it. This has kept my ten year old Epson 1200u going strong since Vista hit. But you're right, I'm sure they don't like it one bit lol

CTerrian, sometimes you have to unplug the scanner, reboot, and plug it in again -make sure the scanner is on when you plug it in. Once it picks up you don't have to do it again. Sorry it didn't work

 My older CanoScan N1220U was not compatible with Windows 7. I even tried buying a new scanner but it didn't have a driver for Windows 7 either. The guy at the store said if it was VISTA compatible it would work. It didn't.

I kept looking on the 'net and happened across this forum. Thanks for the link to VueScan. I tried it and liked it. And bought it!

My scanner's back in business! :geek:

Windows 7, 64-Bit scanner drivers

Although this PC's Windows Vista, 32-bit I've a Windows 7, 64-Bit PC on which I use an old, 32-Bit, Canon Canoscan N650U scanner. Like others in this SevenForum I too searched & searched endlessly for 64-Bit or TWAIN Driver to use my scanner. I finally decided it'd be less aggravating (wiser) to install Microsoft XP Virtual Mode & install original Canon N650U driver. Scanner works fine in XP Virtual Mode, however, I installed .pdf software in XP Virtual Mode that I'd already installed in Windows 7. VueScan software works in Windows 7, 64-Bit so I know it's possible to use scanner on 64-Bit OS. I refuse to buy software when, with some searching & resourcefulness I can use freeware, hence I didn't buy VueScan. I advise everyone to avoid using various so-called "free" programs that scan your PC to find drivers for you. I tried about 6 of them only to find each required that I pay (which I steadfastly refuse to do) to activate them. I trust those that read this message find it useful. I think we just need to hang around another 18 months for 64-Bit drivers to be more widely available.

Flatbed Scanner for Windows 7 64 Bit

Jim,

I've just purchased a new computer with Window's 7, 64 bit Operating System and find I need a new compatible flatbed scanner. I saw your recomendation in the forum. Now that you've had your scanner for a while, can you give me some pro & con information?

Alas I have continued my search for Canon N650U Win7 64-bit (or 32-bit) driver freeware and have not found any. Perhaps an older version of VueScan (one no longer supported has been relegated to freeware and may then be used.
