Hi Guys

Be gentle with me, as I am no expert. Brand new Acer Aspire 5741 - 433G32Mn with i5-430M. 3Gb RAM. 320Gb HDD. Windows 7 Home Prem. 64-bit

Had it less than a day - crashed. On trying to reboot, went to a blue splash screen and stops. Have tried everything in my very limited experience to get it to reboot - nothing. It runs its self-repair program (Loading Files) or load Windows normally - same result.

I have pressed f2, f12, f8, Alt f10 (the Acer recovery program), f10 and tried every option from all of these - sometimes goes round in a loop but everything eventually leads to bsod. Luckily, had made a Windows Recovery Disc but even booting from this - same result. Tried every option I could possibly try - same result. Help!

Sometimes, it will go to a different screen - Windows Recovery screen with a cursor, and ask me what keyboard language, but no matter what language option I choose, BSOD.

Not provided with any recovery or Windows discs by Acer.

Acer Customer Service are useless. Unfortunately, I live on a remote island with very limited facilities, and would really like to sort it myself - as sending it back and waiting will take weeks. I suspect it is a hardware fault and maybe sending it off is what I have to do, what do you think?

I have no idea how to get error reports or anything to tell you what the computer thinks is wrong?!?

Extra software loaded in such a short period: Sibelius 5, Avast antivirus, Memory Map, Mozilla Firefox, a few photos, and was in the middle of loading OpenOffice when the problems started - if this is relevant.

As I said - simple instructions for a simple mind, please.

Cheers guys

P

What application were you running when it crashed?
What was on the screen when it "crashed"?

Sometimes we all need a little more detail about what was going on when you encountered your problem.

If you are able to safe boot (F8) can you use these instructions to find the DMP file and upload it to us.

Hi Hoganth - was downloading OpenOffice from their website when it crashed. I just left it to it, so unsure of the exact sequence of events, came back to a black screen. No button pressing combination of my panic sequence made any difference so closed it down by holding the power button on. After switch back on, all this.

Hi Ken. I can get the f8 boot menu, but Windows will not load even in safe mode. Any menu option, including 'safe mode', always ends up in it eventually coming to a screen where it offers 'launch repair' or 'load windows normally'. Nothing I can do can get me to Windows in any form, so unable, afaik, to access the dmp file.

Thanks guys

Your best bet may be to download a win 7 image from microsoft. Even without activating it you will be able to boot from it and either do a restore or re-install.

Be careful though that may void your warranty check with Acer first.

By the way - ended up sending it back to Acer. There was a hard drive fault and they replaced it under warranty.
By the way, they said they would refund my postage if I sent them an invoice, but they have simply ignored that - knowing full well that several chase-up phone calls to their helpline on premium rates makes it not worth chasing up - cynical **@***s1

Thanks for all your help anyway guys - you do a good job (learnt a lot in the process)!
