Solved Computer becomes slow when I get into a folder with 1080p videos and s

Hello it's me again ^_^


I've downloaded some series in 1080p but when I access the folder, the computer becomes slow, and I can't even delete them, since it will say "Calculating" ; "Recycling" or "Discovering items", when I try to play one of those episodes (.mkv) when I watch it with subtitles my computer lags and the audio stops fitting the image This would be strange if I had a bad computer, mine's not that good , but it should be able to run 1080p videos with any problems and shouldn't become slow! Here are my specifications:

Core 2 Quad Q9550 (in task manager appears "Usage 100%" )
ATI XFX 6850 1gb
4GB DDR2 (I know these aren't the best but it's the most I could afford at the time I bought the motherboard )

EDIT: Also, in the windows explorer navigation bar, a green loading bar appears as soon as I enter the folder, but it never reaches the end When I try to delete it , appart from saying "Recycling" my computer becomes extremely slow if I open the internet explorer window (the small window saying Recycling)the mouse starts lagging and it freezes

to make that folder more responsive, right click on the folder and go to properties and customize and set it to general items.

How big is the folder?

How many files in it?

How much free spacer on the HD?

It has 19 files (11,2gb) I have 863gb of free space in my HD

It's Explorer scanning all these gigabytes of movie files so it can create thumbnail previews for you. That naturally takes a while, and you might not want to go launching apps or cause further slowdown during the process.

However, it really shouldn't take more than a minute or so, and I'd like to know what's using 100% of your CPU in Task Manager.

Yeah, I thought that at the beginning but it doesn't create thumbnails, even with metafox

Here are some pics I took of the problems I have with those 1080p files and whats using 100% of my CPU

1) Loading, the green bar freezes there, i've left it for an hour and it's on the same place it was when I left home

2) Performance while playing those files (video lags and audio doesn't match video)

On the righthand side of the H264 TAB, select 'Use FFDshow's codec'

Your task manager screenshot isn't very useful because it shows services, not running processes.
But maybe Shark knows something I don't.

Okay I tried the ffdshow thingy and it worked OK (for what I could check in this 5 minutes xD), it's just in the 64 bit application right?


Also here are the pics, the subtitles are ok and not laggy now, but my computer is still slow when accessing that folder and I don't have thumbnails on those files and on 2 in my desktop Thumbnails are not that important but my computer slowness problem actually is

EDIT: Okay so it has been like 10 minutes since I closed that folder and the CPU usage it's still at 100% I don't know why , it freezes too and mouse lags this has never happened before getting those files



EDIT2: I'll have to reboot my PC for it to stop freezing

yes, in the 64bit app... On the MKV TAB try setting Haali's splitter

Thanks a lot Shark007, seems to be working for now, I can even delete files and move them and no lag! Thank you so much! I really appreciate it Did I have to sacrifice any quality or something? I'd really like to know what that settings did since the speed of my computer changed so drastically xD

The DivX splitter was trying to make the thumbnails. You CPU was pinned to 100% because 1 or more of your files is damaged in some way or is an incomplete torrent download.

There is a software on my Tools page called Metafox. It can fix most MKV's and allow proper thumbnailing. It is about the easiest piece of software you'll ever use. Once installed, it places an icon on your desktop. All you do is drag n drop any file (mkv, avi, flv etc) to the icon, it will create a new MKV using the original contents of the supplied file.

I tried Metafox but I got no thumbnail.


I'm glad to hear it wasn't a problem from my computer, I came to believe my CPU was dieing and I was very scared
The torrent download was 100% and Seeding but the conclusion that some files were damaged fits more IMHO xD


I cannot enable DivX splitter again until I delete that folder, right? I'm really sorry for all the trouble I'm causing but it's not good to lose functionality of things xD

When done, get rid of the old files and re-enable the splitter once again.

For thumbnail problems, Uninstall your current codecs and install v315 from MajorGeeks.com
It has new system wide thumbnailing software called Icaros - works pretty nice.

After installation, start the Settings App(s) as an Administrator and use the button on the Help TAb to associate filetypes to the Windows players.
