I have windows 7 ultimate 64bit and when switched on today, the PC showed a message saying default user program, please see event log.

I am not clever on this, so I booted it and got the normal screen. However, I cannot make any google chrome connection as when I hit the sign. it just says unable to find locate data files. Please reinstall.

Luckily I have this laptop as I cant get into anything on my PC to ask. Can anyone please help me.

Thanks for looking.

Alex

Not sure what you mean by that. I am a bit of a 70 + duffer with PC's, but I just switched it off, then switched off the wall sockets for a while and switched on again, That's how I usually do it.

I have since googled on my laptop and found that I can download the google chrome installer loaded it to a stick and then put the stick to the PC and downloaded OK, so I am in business again. I have also copied it into a file so if it does happen again, I can get the connection. Suppose I should have another search engine in the background.

Thanks for trying to help. Much appreciated, but managed this time. Send some warm weather over here will you?

Hello Alex mate I am a 46 drop mate LOL!! so am not far behind you.

Now what I meant by safe mode is when you are having problems with Windows or in general you can start the computer using what is called the safe mode. That is it loads only the very absolute essential files and is useful in diagnosing stuff. You cannot access the net but you can run scanners like Malwarebytes if it is already loaded.
To get to safe mode you just tap the F8 button as you power up the machine - easy!

The specs are just some details about the machine you are using like the CPU and RAM and drives etc That is easy to find with this app http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download < download from piriform and it will tell you a lot about what is in the machine and what you are running.
The info makes it so much easier when helping out folks and so many post in here that have no specs listed. If you like you can click on the My system specs at the bottom left hand corner of my post box and you can see my machines "specs" :D

No mate you don't need to clog up the system with extras like that just leave it as that.

As for the weather well it has been extremely hot and horrible and you would not like it. At the moment we are getting some welcome rain but as usual not enough.

As a matter of fact I am planning to come back over very shortly and visit my folks who all still live back there my only relatives out here is my son and I suppose my ex who I am still very friendly with so sort of family:)

Hey take care mate:cool:

Sounds more like a browser related issue than a Windows system crashhttp://www.computeranswers.com.au.
Experimenting with different browsers is an excellent idea.
If IE or another browser plays up too much I'd recommend disabling add-ons
or the IE reset.
Cheers from Frankston, AU.

Yeah, SFC /scannow.
But I have never seen anything fixed by this command.
Maybe I am not using it enough.

Well I think that you need to run it three times as a general rule. But I stand to be corrected.
